UMD: Cedar Dell South

UMass Dartmouth is actually doing something they promised: completely renovating Cedar Dell South to open for Sept 2007. I am quite shocked, as I thought for sure they would rip the place down to make room for a bigger dormatory complex. Cedar Dell is the best part of UMD, so I'm glad they decided to keep it. Let's just hope the future studends who live there don't trash the place as much as we did....

This is a Design / Build construction project @ the University of Mass Dartmouth Campus consisting of 2 phases. There are 14 two story wood frame apartment style dormitories, Cedar Dell Complex, built in 1986 that are scheduled to be renovated.

The first phase consists of renovating 7 of these building, Cedar Dell South, that must be ready for occupany by August 17, 2007. Approximately eight million dollars worth of work has to be completed in less than four months.

The scope of the renovations are the removal and replacement of all roof shingles, removal of existing windows and replace with new vinyl windows with security screens, remove all wood siding and trim and replace with prefinished Azek Trim and Hardiplank Siding, removal & replacement of rotted plywood sheathing and studs, a new sprinkler system, new boiler & hot water heaters, new tubs, new fintube radiation, upgrade the fire alarm system, new flooring and painting.

The second set of 7 buildings, Cedar Dell West, is scheduled to begin in the Fall of 07. Total Value of Project: $16 to $20 Million

TokyoFlash Japan

I got my new watch today, straight from Japan! Geeky Cool is the new Wicked Cool!

So this is in japanese, so most americans wont understand it... Here's the breakdown on this one: 12 lights on the left in the circle for the hours, then on the bottom there are 5 lights 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 for the minutes. Finally on the top bar you have 9 lights for the minutes between.

When you press the button to show the time, the LED light move around the circle and across the bars, in a malfunctioning manner.

I KNOW, ITS WICKED AWESOME, AND ONLY I'LL BE ABLE TO TELL WHAT TIME IT IS!

Check out more TokyoFlashs on their website and lets all turn japanese, oh yes I think so!

Return to Labyrinth

The Best. Movie. Ever. made now has a sequel, via novel, with "Return to Labyrinth."

You act like I just didn't buy this on amazon.com for $5....and it makes perfect sense that I had to buy the Jarreth action figure that I also found on amazon.... Man today is a great day! I can't wait to get them in the mail!!

The Goblin King has kept a watchful eye on Toby: His minions secretly guiding and protecting the child... Legions of goblins work behind the scenes to ensure that Toby has whatever his heart desires... Preparing him for the day when he will return to the Labyrinth and take his rightful place beside Jareth as the heir to the Goblin Kingdom... That day has come... But no one has told Toby.

Labyrinth brought the fantasy world to us by allowing it to spill over into our world. For the first time, we saw the Jim Henson Creature Shop’s elaborate fantasy creatures interacting with human actors. And for a boy of ten, it made it seem entirely plausible that one day a goblin could come running out of my closet and I could find myself being pulled into the world of Labyrinth myself.

And now, twenty years later, I have. Return to Labyrinth is the official continuation to Jim Henson’s visionary film. The story has been written in collaboration with The Jim Henson Company. This time, Toby (the baby in the movie) is our protagonist, and we learn that Jareth’s interest in Toby in the film may have been more than just his way of getting Sarah into the Labyrinth. This is the first of 3 installments to come! SCORE!!

NorthPoint Project Stalled

NorthPoint is an ambitious, $1 billion project to create an entire neighborhood out of thin air. Currently the site of an abandoned railyard, new residential, commercial and retail space will be built, bringing 24-hour life to an otherwise quiet area of East Cambridge.

There are two buildings currently under construction - 230 units within Tango and Sierra. Each building has its own style and design. Many of the features include wide open floor plans, large walk-in closets in the bedrooms, bamboo floors throughout the living and dining areas, and designer kitchens with stainless steel steel appliances, Arclinea cabinets and Zodiaq countertops.
However it seems that only 2 of the promised 20 buildings might be built. The majority owner of the land on which the project would be built is suing the minority owner, as well as the real estate company managing development, construction, and leasing of the project.

NorthPoint, if completely developed, would encompass 2.2 million square feet of commercial and retail space, about 2,500 residential units, and garage space for 5,000 vehicles. The property straddles Somerville, Cambridge, and Boston near the Lechmere Green Line subway station. A new station was to be built, as well, leading on to an extended Green Line to Medford.
So far, only the two of over twenty proposed buildings have broken ground; the first of these is scheduled for completion this June and the other at the end of the year. Read more about the legal problems here: http://business.bostonherald.com/businessNews/view.bg?articleid=1009873
